Cigarettes in Ukraine, 2016

Summary

“Cigarettes in Ukraine, 2016”, is an analytical report by GlobalData that provides extensive and highly detailed current and future market trends in Ukraine.

Ukraine is one of the largest Eastern European markets to emerge after the break-up of the former Soviet Union in the early 1990s, and has a population of just over 44 million, although this is gradually declining due to emigration, political disruption, and hostilities in the eastern region. The annexation of the Crimea and Sevastopol regions by Russia appears unlikely to be reversed, and resulted in a significant population decline. In the south of the country, Ukraine shares borders with seven other central and Eastern European markets, giving it considerable strategic significance. Since January 2007, four of these borders have been with EU countries. In addition to its frontiers with Russia, Ukraine also has borders with Moldova and Romania in the south west and with Hungary, Slovakia, and Poland in the west, while to the north lays Belarus. The country also has a large Black Sea coastline that facilitates direct trade with countries such as Bulgaria and Turkey, and is a member of the CIS although it is gravitating politically towards the EU.

Cigarettes in Ghana, 2019

Cigarettes in Ghana, 2019 Summary Per capita consumption of cigarettes in Ghana is extremely low at only 48 pieces in 2017. Nevertheless, the market has considerable potential despite a collapse in the economy in 1999 that resulted in major difficulties, which have recently been overcome. Real GDP growth has been boosted in recent years by high prices for gold and cocoa, as well as the start of oil production in 2001. Ghana also has one of the more stable democracies in Africa. However, contraband is notable, with estimates giving it 10% of sales. Legitimate sales in 2017 were estimated at 1.3 billion pieces, down 20.2% on 1990 levels, with the performance of the economy and contraband the main reasons for this sluggish performance. Cigarettes in Armenia, 2019

Cigarettes in Armenia, 2019 Summary The Republic of Armenia became an independent republic in September 1991. However, following the withdrawal of Soviet troops, a war erupted between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the long-disputed territory of Nagorno-Karabakh, a primarily Armenian-populated enclave, assigned to Soviet Azerbaijan by Moscow in the 1920s. A ceasefire was brokered by Russia in 1994, but the dispute has not been properly resolved and the economies of both countries have been affected by the inability to progress towards a peaceful resolution. Armenia was shattered by a devastating earthquake in 1998 and, whilst the country has been relatively stable politically, a terrorist attack on parliament in 1999 left the prime minister and the speaker dead.
