Diesel consumption, increased by 0.5% about 3,331 Million liters. Fuel prices continued to rise in Portugal, the price of petrol in 2016 rose by 1.8%, and diesel prices grew by 9.0%. In Portugal fuel consumption is expected to decline 12.3% towards 2022 as motorists invest in increasingly fuel efficient and alternative fuel vehicles over this period.

As of 2016, 67.9% of service stations in Portugal featured a shop. The total number of service stations with a shop rose by 2.9% to 1,924 sites. The top four fuel retailers in Portugal accounted for 60.5% of the number of service station shops in the country. Galp is the leading player in the service station shop market, with 47.2% of its 720 sites featuring a shop. 17.7% of all service station sites with a shop are Galp branded.

38.5% of service stations in Portugal feature a car wash. The total number of service stations with a car wash in Portugal rose by 3.4% to 1,089 sites as retailers invested in these facilities.
