Consistent and sustainable economic growth in Vietnam during the global economic crisis has improved business confidence in the country. Vietnam recorded a significant rise in foreign direct investment (FDI) during the review period (2007–2011), which the construction industry benefited from considerably. This enabled the Vietnamese construction industry to record a strong compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of during the review period. - In order to minimize the gap between the supply and demand of energy, there are plans to open three nuclear plants in Vietnam by 2025.
- The first nuclear power plant deal will value VND96.7 trillion (US$5 billion), and was already signed in November 2010. Other companies are also investing in power projects in the country. For example, Song Da Corporation, a leading power investor, has 16 investments in Vietnamese power projects and is preparing for another six new investments in power generation.
- To satisfy increasing oil demand, Vietnam began the construction of its second oil refinery, worth VND119.9 trillion (US$6.2 billion), in 2008. In 2010, the state-owned oil group PetroVietnam announced plans to seek foreign investment for 30 energy and real estate projects including the Long Son oil refinery, which will potentially be Vietnam’s third refinery facility.
